A well known Democrat, Robert F. Kennedy, in his 1967 book To Seek a Newer World, said the federal government should support the development of light manufacturing in the ghettos of all large U. S. cities as one remedy for ending the cycle of poverty in America’s inner-cities. This idea, which I think an excellent idea, was apparently murdered along with Bobby Kennedy. No Democrat has mentioned it since. Nor have any Republicans. And they certainly haven’t come up with any better ideas, nor, for that matter, have they come up with any ideas. We should cut off all trade with China and begin making things here by creating light manufacturing in both urban and rural areas of the nation that are economically depressed.
