The theory of evolution is gearing down for a scientific revolution

“The theory of evolution is not just an inert piece of theoretical science. It is, and cannot help being, also a powerful folk-tale about human origins.” ~ Mary Midgley, Evolution as a Religion, (London: Routledge, 1985, 2002) p. 1

Planthopper Gears: Life Imitating Inventions or vice Versa?

“Robert Full, a biomechanist at UC Berkeley observes that the planthopper’s gears are ‘…a wonderful example of the clever solutions that nature comes up wtih.’

“Scientists and inventors are always looking to nature for designing products that can improve our lives. Future devices might be a high-tech camera that can see like fly eyes or medical devices that resemble the efficient way a hairy bat tongue sucks in nectar.

“Surprisingly, humans made gears before planthoppers were officially discovered with them. So who is the more original designer? Man or nature? Planthoppers everywhere are surely laughing at this question.”

To the evolutionists, there is no design in, and no designer of, the living world — there cannot be. Indeed, this is the whole point of biological evolution: to rid us of the need for design and a designer (i.e. God, the Creator). Darwinian evolution is: atomism applied to biology.

Planthoppers everywhere are laughing at the failed theory of evolution, as are the scientists who have already abandoned the failed — but still reigning — theory.

The proven failure that is “the theory of biological evolution” is gearing down for a scientific revolution.

It’s back to the drawing board — teleology, intelligence, and design — for biology.

The reigning paradigm — Darwinian evolution — permits no teleology, no intelligence, and no design in the living world, and is fraught with so many anomalies, which cannot be accounted for, that it now resembles swiss cheese more than it does science.

Only the most loyal of true believers still manage to have faith in the collapsing, pseudoscientific — and pseudo-religious — worldview that is Darwinian evolution.

Prepare for another scientific revolution — in biology:

“A scientific revolution occurs, according to Kuhn, when scientists encounter anomalies that cannot be explained by the universally accepted paradigm within which scientific progress has thereto been made. The paradigm, in Kuhn’s view, is not simply the current theory, but the entire worldview in which it exists, and all of the implications which come with it. This is based on features of landscape of knowledge that scientists can identify around them.

“There are anomalies for all paradigms, Kuhn maintained, that are brushed away as acceptable levels of error, or simply ignored and not dealt with…

“When enough significant anomalies have accrued against a current paradigm, the scientific discipline is thrown into a state of crisis, according to Kuhn. During this crisis, new ideas, perhaps ones previously discarded, are tried. Eventually a new paradigm is formed, which gains its own new followers, and an intellectual “battle” takes place between the followers of the new paradigm and the hold-outs of the old paradigm.”

Gear  (gîr)

a. A toothed machine part, such as a wheel or cylinder, that meshes with another toothed part to transmit motion or to change speed or direction.

b. A complete assembly that performs a specific function in a larger machine.

Gear - Planthopper

Gear – Planthopper

When I read the article (below) concerning the first “mechanical gears” found in nature, which were recently discovered in a jumping insect, I wasn’t at all surprised to see the evolutionists were dismissing design with brusk and bare assertions:

“These gears are not designed; they are evolved — representing high speed and precision machinery evolved for synchronization in the animal world.”

The paradigm of Darwinian evolution is, once again, disproven by observation of the natural world — this time, by gears belonging to a jumping insect — and all the Darwinists can do is jump at the chance to reassert their collapsing worldview.

“Perhaps they [the Darwinists] are reluctant to confess error. Perhaps they fear that the fundamentalists will gloat over their discomfiture. These would be human failings, but just the sort that one must resolutely put aside. I urge the Darwinists to take the public into their confidence by a full disclosure. They are not expected to be infallible, confession is good for the soul, and candor is always highly valued.” ~ Norman MacBeth, Darwin Retried: An Appeal to Reason, (Harvard: The Harvard Commons Press, 1971) p. 150

Jumping insect’s gears cause Darwinian evolutionists to ignore yet another anomaly in their anomaly-ridden paradigm:

Sept. 12, 2013 – Jumping insect has first ‘mechanical gears’ found in nature

“Functioning “mechanical gears” have been found in nature for the first time, British scientist say, powering the jumping prowess of a common garden insect.

“Issus, a plant-hopping insect found in gardens across Europe, possesses hind-leg joints with curved cog-like strips of opposing teeth that intermesh, rotating like mechanical gears to synchronize the animal’s legs when it launches into a jump, researchers at Cambridge University reported Thursday.

“Calling it the “first observation of mechanical gearing in a biological structure,” the scientists said the discovery shows gear mechanisms previously thought to be solely man-made have an evolutionary precedent.

“The gears in the Issus hind-leg bear remarkable engineering resemblance to those found on bicycles and inside car transmissions, they said.

“The help coordinate the powerful jumps that are this insect’s primary mode of transport, they said, because even tiny discrepancies in synchronization between the jumping action of its legs would result in “yaw rotation,” causing the insect to spin hopelessly out of control.

“This precise synchronization would be impossible to achieve through a nervous system, as neural impulses would take far too long for the extraordinarily tight coordination required,” Cambridge zoologist Malcolm Burrows said.

“With the biological gears the legs interlock creating absolute synchronicity in the jumps, the researchers said.

“We usually think of gears as something that we see in human designed machinery, but we’ve found that that is only because we didn’t look hard enough,” study co-author

Gregory Sutton at the University of Bristol said.

“These gears are not designed; they are evolved — representing high speed and precision machinery evolved for synchronization in the animal world.”

“Gear: a) A toothed machine part, such as a wheel or cylinder, that meshes with another toothed part to transmit motion or to change speed or direction. b) A complete assembly that performs a specific function in a larger machine.”

Jumping insect with gears no surprise to scientists who have adopted the newer and better Intelligent Design paradigm, because their theory both predicts and explains such gears:

The Planthopper Nymph Has Gears

“The planthopper nymph is a tiny insect with an incredibly fast jumping mechanism (it jumps in a few milliseconds with an acceleration of almost 400 g’s). What is perhaps most interesting are its gears that new research has uncovered. These micro marvels allow the insect to lock its legs together and synchronize their jumping motion with a precision of one three hundred thousandth of a second. You can see the video here. Truly amazing.”

Planthopper’s Gears – Scientific Explanations

Two Paradigms: 1) Darwinian Evolution; and 2) Intelligent Design

1. Darwinian Evolution: “These gears are not designed; they are evolved — representing high speed and precision machinery evolved for synchronization in the animal world.”

2. Intelligent Design: These gears are designed; they could not have evolved, because a gear is: “a) A complete [intelligently designed] assembly that performs a specific function in a larger machine. b) A complete assembly that performs a specific function in a larger machine”

Number 1 is an assertion.

Number 2 is an explanation.

Assertion: “A confident and forceful statement of fact or belief.”

Explanation: “A statement or account that makes something clear.”

When parts fit together in a complete assembly in order to do something, it’s evidence of design, function, and purpose.

Teleology and Intelligent Design?

“No teleologist can be a Darwinian.” ~ Charles Hodge, What is Darwinism?

Teleology and Darwinian Evolution?

“Indeed there is no evidence whatsoever to support any belief in cosmic teleology.” ~ Ernst Mayr, What Evolution Is

Teleology: “The study of evidences of design in nature; a doctrine explaining phenomena by final causes; the fact or character attributed to nature or natural processes of being directed toward an end or shaped by a purpose; the use of design or purpose as an explanation of natural phenomena.”

Latin: teleologia, from Greek: tele-, telos end, purpose + -logia -logy.

“Teleological is the name of a kind of explanation, namely, one that works by mentioning a function— not, for instance, by mentioning a cause…All talk of function is therefore in any case teleological. It is about design. What relation this fact may have to the possible presence of a designer is a separate question.” ~ Mary Midgley, Science as Salvation (London: Routledge, 1993) p.11

A half evolved gear is incapable of functioning.

The only explanation the evolutionists have for the functioning gears this insect has is:

“A very long time ago, atoms began colliding in the void and, eventually, over a very long period of time, out popped these gears.”

“Atoms collide in every possible way until they form a wide variety of molecules, each selected for by the local concentration of atoms together with the laws of chemistry. Molecules, in turn, explore ever more complicated chemical reactions until they form a molecule capable of catalyzing its own production together with variation in its form: Such a form of proto-life is selected for merely by its ability to reproduce and adapt to different environmental conditions. Because of its ability to adapt to new surroundings, life explores a vast space of possible beings, until it arrives first at sexual reproduction and then at language.” ~ Seth Lloyd, (in) Intelligent Thought, (2006) page 189)

“This is what the evolutionists would have us to believe: that atoms colliding randomly in the void — given chemical law and enough time — eventually become human beings, capable of communication through the use of language. If it weren’t for the fact that some people’s belief in evolution so seriously distorts their perception of the world, this sort of talk — of atoms developing into people — would be laughable. But it’s no laughing matter when people’s perceptions of the world become distorted by imaginative, abstract, intellectual-play theories about the world. People — both consciously and unconsciously — allow modern science to define reality abstractly, by dismissing and replacing the concrete reality of their lived-experience of the world with the imaginative, abstract, intellectual-play (scientific) theories about the world. It is, however, the consciously perceived experience of living our lives in-the-world that is reality to us in the truest sense of the word. Because the world we experience is the only world of which we can ever be consciously aware.” (See: A. J. MacDonald, Jr., The World Perceived (2009) pp. 97-98)

Darwin’s Black Box: The Biochemical Challenge to Evolution

“Darwin’s Black Box helped to launch the Intelligent Design movement: the argument that nature exhibits evidence of design, beyond Darwinian randomness. Today, with the movement stronger than ever, Michael J. Behe updates the book with an important new Afterword on the state of the debate. —Time

“Naming Darwin’s Black Box to the National Review’s list of the 100 most important nonfiction works of the twentieth century, George Gilder wrote that it “overthrows Darwin at the end of the twentieth century in the same way that quantum theory overthrew Newton at the beginning.” Discussing the book in The New Yorker in May 2005, H. Allen Orr said of Behe, “he is the most prominent of the small circle of scientists working on intelligent design, and his arguments are by far the best known.” From one end of the spectrum to the other, Darwin’s Black Box has established itself as the key text in the Intelligent Design movement—the one argument that must be addressed in order to determine whether Darwinian evolution is sufficient to explain life as we know it, or not.

“For this edition, Behe has written a major new Afterword tracing the state of the debate in the decade since it began. It is his first major new statement on the subject and will be welcomed by the thousands who wish to continue this intense debate.”
