10 uses of the word “monster” in 21 paragraphs ≠ journalism

“One of the leading voices in the U.S. on the subject of Journalistic Standards and Ethics is the Society of Professional Journalists. The Preamble to its Code of Ethics states:

…public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy. The duty of the journalist is to further those ends by seeking truth and providing a fair and comprehensive account of events and issues. Conscientious journalists from all media and specialties strive to serve the public with thoroughness and honesty. Professional integrity is the cornerstone of a journalist’s credibility.

“The Radio-Television News Directors Association, an organization exclusively centered on electronic journalism, maintains a code of ethics centering on—public trust, truthfulness, fairness, integrity, independence and accountability. RTDNA publishes a pocket guide to these standards.”

“Yellow journalism, or the yellow press, is a type of journalism that presents little or no legitimate well-researched news and instead uses eye-catching headlines to sell more newspapers. Techniques may include exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, or sensationalism. By extension, the term yellow journalism is used today as a pejorative to decry any journalism that treats news in an unprofessional or unethical fashion.”

Michael L. Weinstein

Michael Weinstein – Huffington Post – April 16, 2013 – Fundamentalist Christian Monsters: Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag

“Ladies and Gentlemen, let me tell you of monsters and monstrous wrongs. And let me tell you what these bloody monsters thrive on… Today, we face incredibly well-funded gangs of fundamentalist Christian monsters who terrorize their fellow Americans by forcing their weaponized and twisted version of Christianity upon their helpless subordinates in our nation’s armed forces. Oh my, my, my, how “Papa’s got a brand new bag…

“If these fundamentalist Christian monsters of human degradation, marginalization, humiliation and tyranny cannot broker or barter your acceptance of their putrid theology, then they crave for your universal silence in the face of their rapacious reign of theocratic terror…”

As a writer, I have no respect for Mr Weinstein writing this, nor for the Huffington Post for publishing this.

At a very sad time for journalism, when most so-called professional “journalists” are making name-calling and inflammatory rhetoric a new job skill, this article and its author sink to a new low.

Shame on Mr Weinstein and shame on the Huffington Post, which is supposedly: “Featuring fresh takes and real-time analysis from HuffPost’s signature lineup of contributors.”

To this angry, atheistic Jew, Christians who believe in family values are evil, cowardly, creatures, bigots, bandits, pigs, monsters, gangs, carpetbaggers, cowards, extremist, militant, homophobic, hatemongers, superstitious, theocrat, hategroup, savage, terrorists whose putrid, weaponized, and twisted version of Christian theology threatens the national security of our beautiful nation…

Sadly, Mr Weinstein is not the only so-called “journalist” who thinks name-calling and hate-writing = “journalism”. I would venture to say virtually all so-called “journalists” who write about social and political matters are stooping to this same, low level, and that Mr Weinstein is simply being more openly hostile, and more honest, than most are.

It’s good, however, to see people like Mr Weinstein taking the gloves off and exposing themselves for who they really are and what they really believe, although it is disturbing, and disappointing, to say the least. Like Nietzsche, who laid out his hatred for God and Christian morality in plain language, Weinstein does has done the same, although not nearly as well, which makes it easy for readers to see where this “writer” stands.
