Kirsten Powers’ April 11, 2013 USA Today article shaming the media for not reporting on the Gosnell murder trial in Philadelphia – combined with a prolife-prowomen activist tweetfest April 12 – has given rise to some mainstream media self criticism and some small measure of media reporting on the Gosnell trial, which is ongoing at this time.

A very good article appeared in The Atlantic April 12, 2013, concerning the Gosnell murder trial in Philadelphia, which was inspired by Kirsten Powers’ article:
See: The Atlantic – April 12, 2013 – “Why Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s Trial Should Be a Front-Page Story” – http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2013/04/why-dr-kermit-gosnells-trial-should-be-a-front-page-story/274944/
LeRoy Carhart, the late term abortionist in Germantown, Maryland, induces labor in the same manner, today, as Gosnell did in Philadelphia, before he was arrested for the murder of one women and seven children.
As The Atlantic article, quoting from the grand jury report in the Gosnell case, points out:
“When you perform late term “abortions” by inducing labor, you get babies. Live, breathing, squirming babies.”
We can be certain women and their babies are suffering the same horrible fate in Carhart’s Germantown late term abortion clinic today as women and their babies were suffering in Gosnell’s Philadelphia late term abortion clinic, which is why Carhart, like Gosnell, should be arrested for murder too.
I wonder when the Montgomery County Police in Germantown will decide to arrest Carhart? Instead of harassing me and the others who protest his late-term abortion clinic?
In early February 2013, Carhart, like Gosnell, killed a women: 29 year old Jennifer McKenna Morbelli. Carhart has killed women before, in Kansas (2005), and now he’s killed again, in Maryland.
Death and killing is Carhart’s business.

“Germantown, MD, February 8, 2013 – A 29 year-old woman was pronounced dead at a local hospital in Rockville, MD on Thursday, February 7th, as a direct result of complications experienced during a 3rd trimester abortion by LeRoy Carhart – who was hailed as a “hero” in the film “After Tiller” at the recent Sundance Film Festival.”

Carhart Getting Away With Killing Woman in Botched 33-Week Abortion
On February 7, 29-yr-old Jennifer Morbelli, pictured right, died at a Maryland hospital the morning after LeRoy Carhart completed the abortion of her 33-wk-old baby in the Germantown, Maryland, mill at which he worked.
Ironically, the day before Morbelli died the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene issued licenses to all 17 abortion clinics in the state without ever having inspected them, even though abortion clinic regulations had been enacted in November 2012.

Kermit Gosnell is No Different Than Other Abortion Doctors
“The law may say that all the other babies Gosnell killed were not persons guaranteed protection under the law, and that only those seven babies and that woman were. But we as pro-lifers know that the law is wrong, and that the legal abortions which Gosnell and other abortionists across this country and world perform are no less acts of murder, no matter how, when, where they are done, or their legality. Those babies who were legally killed are no less worthy of the right to be born, since we are all human persons deserving of the right to life from the moment of conception.”

The Gosnell trial media blackout exposed
USA TODAY – April 11, 2013 – Philadelphia abortion clinic horror: Column
“It’s not your fault. Since the murder trial of Pennsylvania abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell began March 18, there has been precious little coverage of the case that should be on every news show and front page. The revolting revelations of Gosnell’s former staff, who have been testifying to what they witnessed and did during late-term abortions, should shock anyone with a heart.
“A Lexis-Nexis search shows none of the news shows on the three major national television networks has mentioned the Gosnell trial in the last three months. The exception is when Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan hijacked a segment on Meet the Press meant to foment outrage over an anti-abortion rights law in some backward red state.
“The Washington Post has not published original reporting on this during the trial and The New York Times saw fit to run one original story on A-17 on the trial’s first day. They’ve been silent ever since, despite headline-worthy testimony.
“You don’t have to oppose abortion rights to find late-term abortion abhorrent or to find the Gosnell trial eminently newsworthy. This is not about being “pro-choice” or “pro-life.” It’s about basic human rights.
“The deafening silence of too much of the media, once a force for justice in America, is a disgrace.”

In the Kermit Gosnell case, conservative watchdogs rattle the mainstream media’s cage
“Though it’s hard to exactly “break” the media story of the Kermit Gosnell trial, MRC/NewsBusters has been at the forefront of what now looks like a journalistic upheaval. The Washington Post has gone on record lamenting that it didn’t send a reporter to the trial sooner. The Atlantic’s Conor Friedersdorf has ruled that this is a front-page story, anywhere. Twitter is exploding with talk of the case and the media.”

Eight Reasons for the Media Blackout on Abortionist Kermit Gosnell
“On Twitter and FaceBook today, #Gosnell is trending. The reason for the social media buzz is the strange silence of the mainstream media regarding one of the most gruesome murder trials in American history.
“To put the Kermit Gosnell trial in perspective, consider other famous cases of child-killing. From Susan Smith to Andrea Yates, and most recently the horror of Newtown, we are accustomed to 24/7 news coverage of these types of tragedies.
“Not so with Dr. Gosnell. Here are the reasons why…”

The pro-abort spin machine’s lame attempts at damage control after the Gosnell trial was exposed
Kermit Gosnell Trial Is A ‘Peek Into The World Before Roe v. Wade’: NARAL President Ilyse Hogue
“Abortion rights opponents are drawing the wrong lesson from the horrific case of Kermit Gosnell, Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, said Friday.
“Instead of encouraging more restrictions on reproductive rights, Hogue said, the Gosnell trial should serve as a warning about the consequences of denying women access to safe and affordable abortion care.
“This is exactly what happens when you place undue restrictions and you try to shame women to keep them from exercising their constitutional right to safe and legal abortions,” Hogue told The Huffington Post in an interview. “You make them victims to people like Gosnell, because in their desperation they’ll turn anywhere. You want to drive people like Gosnell out of business? Then you actually support medical facilities and the right of women to safe and legal abortion.”
“Anti-abortion advocates are using the case to bolster support for new restrictions, including TRAP (Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers) laws that impose onerous architectural standards on clinics that perform only first-trimester abortions. Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, implied on Friday that the TRAP laws being pushed by GOP-controlled state legislatures around the country were all directly inspired by the Gosnell case.
“Since Kermit Gosnell’s ‘house of horrors’ clinic was discovered in 2010, several states have enacted measures to ensure women going into abortion facilities are treated with basic dignity and respect,” Dannenfelser said in a statement about Virginia’s new abortion clinic regulations.
“But Hogue argued that the TRAP regulations, which could shut down many safe and legal abortion clinics by requiring them to undergo cost-prohibitive renovations, will actually force women to seek back-alley abortions like the ones performed by Gosnell.
“Kermit Gosnell’s so-called clinic is a peek into the world before Roe v. Wade,” she said, “and this is exactly what our opponents are driving us to.”

Absurd Abortion Restrictions Just Make For More Gosnell ‘Screeching’ Aborted Babies In Back Alley Clinics
“The horrific case of Dr. Kermit Gosnell of Pennsylvania abusing female patients in desperate need of quick and cheap abortions continues with even more gory details: now a young intern recalling the sound of “screeching” babies born from botched late-term abortions. Ashley Baldwin, then only 15 years old and completely unlicensed, claims that she was illegally giving intravenous medicine, as well as assisting in said abortions. And don’t forget the details of Dr. Gosnell puncturing cervixes and leaving women to die — all amidst cat feces.
“You know what these hideous images remind me of? The days before Roe vs. Wade.
“In Pennsylvania, it’s becoming more difficult to even get a legal and safe abortion. The number of abortions clinics has reportedly declined with only 13 “freestanding providers of surgical abortion care.” There used to be 22 providers two years ago. Guttmacher reports that in 2008, 82 percent of counties in Pennsylvania had no abortion provider.
Limited access to affordable care immediately equals back alley sketch land. Where care is poor, abortions are cheap, and women die. We’ve been here before. And thanks to abortion restrictions imposed on the state of Pennsylvania, it looks like some desperate women were there again.

Kermit Gosnell’s Pro-Choice Enablers (Is This What an Industry That Self-Regulates Looks Like?)
“In 2002, a piece of legislation called the “Born-Alive Infant Protection Act” began requiring doctors to treat children born alive during abortions the same way they treat other newborns. Initially, advocates for choice adamantly opposed that legislation, too, as an assault on Roe v. Wade.
“But what about assaults on children who, having somehow gotten out of the birth canal alive, we agree are children? And what of the assaults on women, who uniformly deserve sterile conditions and an unlocked emergency exit? How can we know they are treated competently without the regulation and oversight of this, as any other industry? Just like other industries, the abortion industry prefers the self-policing that in the Gosnell case did not prevent tragedy any more than the self-regulation and lax enforcement of the oil industry prevented the BP oil spill.
“On Saturday, President Obama affirmed his support for Roe v. Wade by saying that “government should not intrude on private family matters.” But it’s a hands-off lack of oversight that allowed Kermit Gosnell to do so much damage before he was finally stopped – by accident, by authorities investigating him for over-prescribing OxyContin.
“Perhaps Gosnell himself best summed up the underlying problem at his arraignment, where he reportedly seemed confused by the proceedings: “I understand the one count, because a patient died,” he told the court, “but I didn’t understand the seven counts.” It apparently never occurred to him that the dead infants – one of them photographed in a plastic shoe box, another kept frozen in a gallon of spring water – were people, too.

Gosnell trial details belie ‘safe, legal and rare’ arguments
“The trial of Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia doctor charged with murdering infants born alive during abortions, is finally getting more and more media attention in this, its third week. In response, some pro-choice advocates are painting the Gosnell story as an argument for fewer restrictions — the “safe, legal and rare” formulation of Bill Clinton. (Actually, some of those pro-choice advocates say abortion should be safe and common!)”
Wait just a damn minute.
In the first place, Gosnell’s clinic was not some kind of underground, back-alley deal. It was regulated — or was supposed to have been; this is a whole other element of the story — by the state of Pennsylvania. Certain procedures Gosnell performed, notably abortions for women more than 24 weeks pregnant, were illegal. But he also performed legal ones. This was a clinic that existed right out in the open for three decades, starting within six years of the Roe v. Wade decision.
The notion that these killings would have been OK, if only they had taken place within the womb at a shiny, clean clinic, is barbaric.”

Lame #Gosnell media blackout pushback
“Rather than addressing the problem — that the live testimony at the trial has revealed the horrors like never before — some people are cherry-picking isolated media reports to make believe it’s not a problem, and making the argument that “feminist” writers were ignored.
“This is a red herring. Some “feminist” writers may have written about it and there were some media reports mostly long ago, but compare the coverage since the trial started to other high profile trials.
“The recent demand for coverage started with pro-life bloggers, and then went viral when Kristen Powers wrote her powerful piece in USA Today calling out the media for its silence.
“Those are the facts. Sorry the facts don’t line up with the counter-narrative that there is no media problem.”

Salon.com shouts “Look, Squirrel!” to deflect #Gosnell outrage
“As noted yesterday, the widespread attention to the mainstream media’s news blackout on the Kermit Gosnell trial evoked a pushback at Salon.com with the claim that “feminist” writers had written about the horrors, and therefore according to Irin Carmon, There is no Gosnell coverup.
“That gave rise to pushback no. 2 by Alex Seitz-Wald – On Gosnell, where were conservatives before this week?
“Those are straw man arguments and non-sequiturs.
“Assuming, for the sake of argument, that ”feminist” writers did write about Gosnell and that conservatives did not, that would not change the fact that the mainstream media outlets have almost completely ignored the trial.
“As documented here, other than a local NBC station and a few passing articles in the national media, the trial and gruesome testimony have not received even a tiny fraction of the national mainstream media coverage that every other mass murder trial gets, or even many single murder trials. Mainstream media outlets consciously refuse to cover the trial, Detroit Free Press rebuffs reader demand to cover Gosnell butchery.”

The Not-So-Silent Scream: The Philly House of Horrors Murder Trial and the Coming Legalization of Infanticide
“The sad truth about abortion, infanticide, and our culture is this: infanticide is safer for women than is abortion, and we will soon see more and more peoples advocating for the legalization of infanticide.
“In his 1993 essay “Taking Life,” [Professor Peter] Singer, in a section called “Justifying Infanticide and Non-Voluntary Euthanasia,” wrote that “killing a disabled infant is not morally equivalent to killing a person.”

Planned Parenthood’s defense of infanticide
“Testifying against a Florida bill that would require abortionists to provide emergency medical care to an infant who survives an abortion, Planned Parenthood lobbyist Alisa LaPolt Snow was asked point blank: “If a baby is born on a table as a result of a botched abortion, what would Planned Parenthood want to have happen to that child that is struggling for life?” She replied: “We believe that any decision that’s made should be left up to the woman, her family, and the physician.”

“But this wasn’t the first time Planned Parenthood had opposed such legislation.
“Planned Parenthood also actively fought Illinois’ Born Alive Infants Protection Act in the early 2000s, along with then state Senator Barack Obama. This legislation was introduced to protect known abortion survivors.
“In fact, Planned Parenthood and Obama worked together as a team. From ABC News, July 17, 2007…”

Carhart = Gosnell
What occurred in the past with Gosnell in Pennsylvania has been and is continuing to occur with Carhart in Maryland.
The question is: “When will Carhart, like Gosnel, be stopped?”
Grand Jury Report – Women’s Medical Society
“[T]he Pennsylvania Department of Health abruptly decided, for political reasons, to stop inspecting abortion clinics at all. The politics in question were not anti-abortion, but pro. With the change of administration from Governor Casey to Governor Ridge, officials concluded that inspections would be “putting a barrier up to women” seeking abortions. Even nail salons in Pennsylvania are monitored more closely for client safety. Without regular inspections, providers like Gosnell continue to operate; unlawful and dangerous third-trimester abortions go undetected; and many women, especially poor women, suffer.”
“When you perform late-term “abortions” by inducing labor, you get babies. Live, breathing, squirming babies. By 24 weeks, most babies born prematurely will survive if they receive appropriate medical care. But that was not what the Women’s Medical Society was about. Gosnell had a simple solution for the unwanted babies he delivered: he killed them. He didn’t call it that. He called it “ensuring fetal demise.” The way he ensured fetal demise was by sticking scissors into the back of the baby’s neck and cutting the spinal cord. He called that “snipping.”

Teen Worker at Gosnell Abortion Clinic: “They Looked Like Babies”
“Now 22 and the mother of a 2-year-old son, Baldwin on Thursday told a Philadelphia Common Pleas Court jury hearing Gosnell’s murder trial of her unusual hands-on medical apprenticeship.
“Baldwin also told the jury about seeing at least five aborted babies moving, breathing, and, in one case, “screeching” after late-term procedures at the clinic.
“In Pennsylvania, abortions are legal up to 24 weeks of pregnancy. After that, medical experts say, a fetus is capable of living outside the womb.
“They looked just like regular babies,” Baldwin said.”
