Intellectualism, pseudo-intellectualism, and our future

CM Capture 3I’m hanging out at the Starbucks next to the Universidad de Londres Guanajuato campus in Colonia Roma, Mexico City this morning. I’m in the neighborhood because I’ll be attending the upcoming Bi-Nacional Encuentro, which is being held by Movimiento por la Paz con Justicia y Dignidad at the nearby Colegio de Mexico, which is also in Colonia Roma, this Friday through Sunday. Our hope, at the Bi-Nacional Encuentro, being to end the violence in Mexico, which is caused by the US government’s evil, foolish, and so-called “war on drugs.”

I’m always encouraged when I see all these young minds… except that I know many (most?) of them – both here and in the US – are having their minds filled with garbage pseudo-intellectualism. HOWEVER I have met many young people who are attending universities in order to study social justice issues, which I do find very encouraging.

We – Mexico and the US – as societies, have a choice to make:

1) We can choose to continue to “live” as we are now, in a sea of violence, blood, and despair, by simply continuing to act, as we have been doing, for many years now, according to our postmodern pseudo-intellectual and immoral guiding lights: Sade, Nietzsche, and Foucault.

Or,

2) We can choose to live with justice, peace, and hope by choosing to act according to our traditional intellectual and moral guiding lights: God, Natural Law, and Dr. M.L. King.

And I wonder, this morning, which way we will choose. Will it continue to be the way of death? or will we choose the way of life?

I hope we choose life, so that we – and our children – will live.

“I call heaven and earth today to witness against you: I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live.” ~ Deuteronomy 30:19
