The seven deadly sins
The Contrary Virtues were derived from the Psychomachia (“Battle for the Soul”), an epic poem written by Prudentius (c. 410). Practicing these virtues is alledged to protect one against temptation toward the Seven Deadly Sins: humility against pride, kindness against envy, abstinence against gluttony, chastity against lust, patience against anger, liberality against greed, and diligence against sloth. Re: Violence – Let’s be intellectually honest, for a change… shall we?
The last quotation from the final page of The Order of Things does not allude to Sade by name. But, in association with the other passages and in context, there can be little doubt that the great cultural ‘mutation’ welcomed by Foucault refers directly to Sade’s moral philosophy and to its practice in actual life.” (Forbidden Knowledge, 246-247) Continue reading

On being a peripatetic disciple of Christ
A peripatetic teacher, philosopher, theologian, preacher, or disciple is one who walks, or travels, while teaching… or one who, while traveling, by walking, who makes no home in any particular place, teaches and makes disciples, whether they be disciples of a school of philosophical or theological thought, or of Christ, which is what I seek to do wherever I am: make disciples, teaching them all that Jesus commanded us:
“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them inb the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 Continue reading
