The sad truth about abortion, infanticide, and our culture is this: infanticide is safer for women than is abortion, and we will soon see more and more peoples advocating for the legalization of infanticide.

In his 1993 essay “Taking Life,” [Professor Peter] Singer, in a section called “Justifying Infanticide and Non-Voluntary Euthanasia,” wrote that “killing a disabled infant is not morally equivalent to killing a person.”

“Testifying against a Florida bill that would require abortionists to provide emergency medical care to an infant who survives an abortion, Planned Parenthood lobbyist Alisa LaPolt Snow was asked point blank: “If a baby is born on a table as a result of a botched abortion, what would Planned Parenthood want to have happen to that child that is struggling for life?” She replied: “We believe that any decision that’s made should be left up to the woman, her family, and the physician.”

“Today’s testimony during the murder trial of abortion practitioner Kermit Gosnell was no less shocking than previous days. Today, a former employee described how she heard a baby scream during a live-birth abortion.

“Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which “really freaked (her) out” and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.”

“Stephen Massof described how he snipped the spinal cords of babies, calling it, ‘literally a beheading. It is separating the brain from the body.’ He testified that at times, when women were given medicine to speed up their deliveries, ‘it would rain fetuses. Fetuses and blood all over the place’.”

Those who wish to force all American women to remain locked – forever – into the outdated, morally bankrupt, patriarchal, and misogynistic milieu of 1973, during which seven old men decided all American women and children could be treated “as so much trash”, are the most rabid of conservatives, never wishing for our society to make forward progress.

A progressive vision for our society would be for us to create a life-affirming and women-empowering society in which no woman would ever need to face an unwanted pregnancy alone, and in which she would be offered by our society whatever she needed in order to provide for her child herself or to offer her child to a couple seeking to adopt.

All children should be wanted children. Their lives should be celebrated, cherished, and protected by our society, and we need to do the same for women.

The current paradigm of violence against women and the death of their children has failed, and we need to seek a new paradigm in which we see women and children as of inestimable value, worth, and dignity, and not see them “as so much trash”.

We, as a society, need to do better for women and their children – now – before more women are harmed – physically and emotionally – and before more children die.

I can hear the pro-aborts now… “We don’t want unwanted babies to suffer… we want to put them to sleep – mercifully and peacefully – because it’s safer for women and because it is, after all, a woman’s choice.”

“The ancient Romans used to expose unwanted babies on hillsides. Thankfully, we have come a long way since those bad old days. We would never countenance letting a baby die of exposure or get eaten by animals. No, today’s infanticide promoters insist that babies be killed painlessly. After all, we aren’t barbarians!”

“In fact, while the climate of widespread moral uncertainty can in some way be explained by the multiplicity and gravity of today’s social problems, and these can sometimes mitigate the subjective responsibility of individuals, it is no less true that we are confronted by an even larger reality, which can be described as a veritable structure of sin. This reality is characterized by the emergence of a culture which denies solidarity and in many cases takes the form of a veritable “culture of death”. This culture is actively fostered by powerful cultural, economic and political currents which encourage an idea of society excessively concerned with efficiency. Looking at the situation from this point of view, it is possible to speak in a certain sense of a war of the powerful against the weak: a life which would require greater acceptance, love and care is considered useless, or held to be an intolerable burden, and is therefore rejected in one way or another. A person who, because of illness, handicap or, more simply, just by existing, compromises the well-being or life-style of those who are more favoured tends to be looked upon as an enemy to be resisted or eliminated. In this way a kind of “conspiracy against life” is unleashed. This conspiracy involves not only individuals in their personal, family or group relationships, but goes far beyond, to the point of damaging and distorting, at the international level, relations between peoples and States.” ~ John Paul II

“We are committed to the protection of life, which is threatened in today’s world by war, abortion, poverty, racism, capital punishment and euthanasia. We believe that these issues are linked under a ‘consistent ethic of life’.

“We challenge those working on all or some of these issues to maintain a cooperative spirit of peace, reconciliation, and respect in protecting the unprotected. We wish to create a peaceful, just, and sustainable future which respects all of humanity and the planet.” See: http://www.consistent-life.org/
