Jonestown, 9/11, Sandy Hook, and True Believers

“Since many individuals have unconsciously placed their genuine reasoning faculties in abeyance and often lack a valid knowledge of politics and history, their unspoken faith in government and the broader political economy to protect and further their interests is groundless. Against this milieu those genuinely capable of utilizing their reasoning capacities in the pursuit of truth are often held up as heretical for their failure to accept what is presented as reality, with the requisite “conspiracy theory” label wielded in Orwellian fashion to denote such abnormal intellectual activity.” ~ James Tracy

Thoughtcrime

Wikipedia – “In the dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell, thoughtcrime is the criminal act of holding unspoken beliefs or doubts that oppose or question the ruling party. In the book, the government attempts to control not only the speech and actions, but also the thoughts of its subjects. To entertain unacceptable thought is known as crimethink in Newspeak, the ideologically purified dialect of the party. In the book, Winston Smith, the main character, writes in his diary: “Thoughtcrime does not entail death: thoughtcrime is death.” There is also a “ministry of love” which is actually the place of torture for people who commit any type of crime, including thoughtcrime.”

Perception management

Wikipedia – Perception management is a term originated by the US military.

The US Department of Defense (DOD) gives this definition:

“Actions to convey and/or deny selected information and indicators to foreign audiences to influence their emotions, motives, and objective reasoning as well as to intelligence systems and leaders at all to influence official estimates, ultimately resulting in foreign behaviors and official actions favorable to the originator’s objectives. In various ways, perception management combines truth projection, operations security, cover and deception, and psychological operations.”

True believers – not truthers – drank the Flavor-Aid® at Jonestown.

true believer

n.

“One who is deeply, sometimes fanatically devoted to a cause, organization, or person: “a band of true believers bonded together against all those who did not agree with them” (Theodore Draper).”

See: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/true+believer

True believers allow others to tell them what to think and believe.

“Along these lines and despite countervailing facts and inconsistencies the official story of the Sandy Hook shooting is now part of the nation’s collective experience, consciousness and memory. To declare that the shooting ‘never took place’ is cause for intense opprobrium in most polite circles where, in familiar Orwellian fashion, the media-induced trance and dehistoricized will to believe maintain their hold.” ~ James Tracy

See: Sandy Hook School Massacre Part II: Continued Ambiguity and Augmented Realities – http://memoryholeblog.com/2013/01/01/sandy-hook-the-illusion-of-tragedy/

“Let’s take a look at how the media discredited skeptics as Sandy Hoax became an Internet meme. They started by attaching the “truther” label (the term already carrying with it significant stigma from 9/11 truthers), effectively relegating any Sandy Hook critics to the fringes of the loony bin that’s both mocked and governed by cultural taboo.” ~ Vera Blake

See: In Defense of James Tracy and Holding the Media Accountable on Sandy Hook – http://perskeptical.blogspot.com/2013/01/in-defense-of-james-tracy.html

True believers suffer from the psychopathology of denial.

de·ni·al

n.

“An unconscious defense mechanism characterized by refusal to acknowledge painful realities, thoughts, or feelings.”

See: http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Denial+(psychology)

True believers react to the truth by becoming angry and defensive. This is because the true believer’s irrational beliefs, which they’ve unthinkingly adopted from paternal authority figures, are challenged by rational independent thinkers, whom the true believers will react to emotionally by calling these independent thinkers ugly, untrue, and hateful names (e.g., “nutter”, “truther”, “conspiracy theorist”).

True believers will deny scientific facts, because the truth is too upsetting for them to accept. It’s easier for the true believer to deny science than it is for them to distrust the authority figures who have done their thinking for them. On their own, true believers don’t know how to think and are afraid to try. It’s much easier for the true believer to call rational, independently thinking peoples ugly names – such as truther – instead. Calling peoples ugly names also makes the true believer feel better about herself, which is yet another indication of the severity of the true believers’ psychopathology.

Cognitive Dissonance

The theory of cognitive dissonance in social psychology proposes that people have a motivational drive to reduce dissonance by altering existing cognitions, adding new ones to create a consistent belief system, or alternatively by reducing the importance of any one of the dissonant elements. It is the distressing mental state that people feel when they “find themselves doing things that don’t fit with what they know, or having opinions that do not fit with other opinions they hold.” A key assumption is that people want their expectations to meet reality, creating a sense of equilibrium. Likewise, another assumption is that a person will avoid situations or information sources that give rise to feelings of uneasiness, or dissonance.

Cognitive dissonance theory explains human behavior by positing that people have a bias to seek consonance between their expectations and reality. According to Festinger, people engage in a process he termed “dissonance reduction”, which can be achieved in one of three ways: lowering the importance of one of the discordant factors, adding consonant elements, or changing one of the dissonant factors. This bias sheds light on otherwise puzzling, irrational, and even destructive behavior.

Groupthinking true believers drank the poisoned Flavor-Aid® at Jonestown, whereas independent thinking Jonestown “truthers” ran into the jungle.

“In a group, I said, we are all more likely to make riskier decisions and develop common rationalizations – in essence a groupthink – just as the people in Peoples Temple had.” ~ Kimberly A. Adkins

group·think

n.

“A pattern of thought characterized by self-deception, forced manufacture of consent, and conformity to group values and ethics.”

See: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/groupthink

“Groupthink occurs when a homogenous highly cohesive group is so concerned with maintaining unanimity that they fail to evaluate all their alternatives and options.

Groupthink members see themselves as part of an in-group working against an outgroup opposed to their goals.

You can tell if a group suffers from groupthink if it:

overestimates its invulnerability or high moral stance,

collectively rationalizes the decisions it makes,

demonizes or stereotypes outgroups and their leaders,

has a culture of uniformity where individuals censor themselves and others so that the facade of group unanimty is maintained, and

contains members who take it upon themselves to protect the group leader by keeping information, theirs or other group members’, from the leader.

Groups engaged in groupthink tend to make faulty decisions when compared to the decisions that could have been reached using a fair, open, and rational decision-making process.”

The Sandy Hook true believers are suffering from True Believer Syndrome (TBS)

“True-believer syndrome is an informal or rhetorical term used by M. Lamar Keene in his 1976 book The Psychic Mafia. Keene used the term to refer to people who continued to believe in a paranormal event or phenomenon even after it had been proven to have been staged.

Being a writer, I know how important words are.

And I find the rhetoric, like this (below) from Salon, regarding the Sandy Hook truthers, especially disturbing.

As a student of the 1978 Jonestown mass murder/suicide, I find groupthink especially disturbing.

And I prefer independent thought (and being a truther) to groupthink (and being a true believer).

In late November 1978 I flew onboard a US Air Force C-141 cargo jet along with the bodies of hundreds of the dead from Jonestown, which has made the danger of groupthink very real to me.

See:  Jim Jones, Peoples Temple, Jonestown – http://wp.me/pPnn7-25X

Salon – “Many different psychologies are at play here, from hardcore anti-government paranoids who are likely to see a false-flag operation in everything from Waco to Sandy Hook, to others who are trying to make sense of a nonsensical tragedy. Conspiracy theories often seem entirely irrational or even insane; they may actually be far more logical than they appear. At their core, conspiracy theories are like folk tales, a search for an explanation for the unexplainable, a way of making sense of a world. There’s no logic or meaning to what happened at Sandy Hook — a mentally unbalanced lone gunman targeted defenseless children for no particular reason — and that is deeply disturbing. So some people would rather invent an explanation to apply some kind of (even if twisted) logic to the event and to add meaning to the death of innocent children or deny their death entirely and thus absolve the emotional trauma a bit.”

See: http://www.salon.com/2013/01/16/newtown_truthers_where_conspiracy_theories_come_from/

Looking at the words used in the paragraph above I can conclude:

One: The hardcore anti-government Sandy Hook deniers are mentally unbalanced delusional paranoids — and that is deeply disturbing.

Two: Many of them own guns, which is even more disturbing and dangerous.

Three: With their twisted logic and paranoid delusions, one of these unhinged nutter truthers could go so far as to mass murder school children just to “prove” to everyone what a “real” school shooting looks like.

Four: It’s time we round them up – now – before this tragedy occurs.

Five: Sandy Hook Truthers, like Adam Lanza, are mentally unbalanced, irrational, delusional, insane, and dangerous.

Six: For their own good, as well as ours, they need to be medicated into compliance.

Reformed truther:

“I love big brother…”

“I believe Anderson Cooper…”

“I got my mind right now boss….”

Connecticut School Shooting

Salon’s Similarities Between the Sandy Hook Truthers and the Sandy Hook Shooter: Adam Lanza:

Both use(d) twisted logic.

Both targeted (or may target) defenseless children for no particular reason (or for a reason based upon twisted logic).

Both are (were) mentally unbalanced.

Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza was a mentally unbalanced lone gunman

Sandy Hook truthers – left untreated – will likely become mentally unbalanced lone gunmen.

The Sandy Hook shooter was – and the Sandy Hook truthers are – delusional, irrational, and even insane

“Us” versus “Them”

The Sandy Hook true believers say:

“The media says the Connecticut State Police says Adam Lanza used an AR-15 to kill 20 children and 6 adults and that settles it.”

“All rational and sane peoples agree with us (us = media, government true believers).”

“Only irrational, mentally ill, and insane peoples disagree with us.”

“Only nutters and truthers disagree with us.”

“Only heartless, inhuman monsters disagree with us.”

VIDEO – Faces of the Enemy – http://youtu.be/JDq2Ja3DlGg

“Once certain groups are stigmatized as evil, morally inferior, and not fully human, the persecution of those groups becomes more psychologically acceptable. Restraints against aggression and violence begin to disappear. Not surprisingly, dehumanization increases the likelihood of violence and may cause a conflict to escalate out of control.

Once a violence break over has occurred, it may seem even more acceptable for people to do things that they would have regarded as morally unthinkable before.”

The Sandy Hook true believers say: “Delusional peoples should not be allowed to vote, own guns, or remain free.”

The Sandy Hook true believers say: “The truthers must be medicated for their own good and must be incarcerated for the good of society, in order to protect those of us who are rational, healthy, sane citizens.”

Traitorous Truthers and Loyalist True Believers

Truthers and Independent thinking – Truthers value independent thinking.

True believers and Groupthink – True believers do not value independent thinking, allow authority figures to think for them, and believe what they are told they should believe by the media and government. True believers, being in a psychopathological state of denial, are quick to demonize those who don’t unthinkingly parrot the groupthink beliefs.

At present, true believers are labeling those who dissent from their groupthink mindset: “Truthers”

“The government’s narrative is just one way people make sense of disturbing events, though they are making sense of it in a way that’s central to their own worldview,” explained Ilan Shrira, social psychologist at Loyola University in Chicago who has written about 9/11 for Psychology Today. So if your worldview is pro-government, then you make sense of it by trusting the government.

dou·ble·think

n.

Thought marked by the acceptance of gross contradictions and falsehoods, especially when used as a technique of self-indoctrination: “Doublethink . . . is a vast system of mental cheating” (George Orwell).

Doublethink

“The power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one’s mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them… To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just as long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies – all this is indispensably necessary. Even in using the word doublethink it is necessary to exercise doublethink. For by using the word one admits that one is tampering with reality; by a fresh act of doublethink one erases this knowledge; and so on indefinitely, with the lie always one leap ahead of the truth.”

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doublethink

Newspeak

Newspeak is a fictional language in George Orwell‘s novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. In the novel, it refers to the deliberately impoverished language promoted by the state. Orwell explained the basic principles of the language in an essay included as an appendix to the novel. Newspeak is closely based on English but has a greatly reduced and simplified vocabulary and grammar. The totalitarian aim of the Party is to prevent any alternative thinking—”thoughtcrime“, or “crimethink” in the newest edition of Newspeak—by destroying any vocabulary that expresses such concepts as freedom, free enquiry, individualism, resistance to the authority of the state and so on. One character, Syme, says admiringly of the diminishing scope of the new language: “It’s a beautiful thing, the destruction of words.”

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newspeak

“Along these lines and despite countervailing facts and inconsistencies the official story of the Sandy Hook shooting is now part of the nation’s collective experience, consciousness and memory. To declare that the shooting ‘never took place’ is cause for intense opprobrium in most polite circles where, in familiar Orwellian fashion, the media-induced trance and dehistoricized will to believe maintain their hold.” ~ James Tracy

Spiral of Silence

Wikipedia – “The spiral of silence is a political science and mass communication theory propounded by the German political scientist Elisabeth Noelle-Neumann. Spiral of silence theory describes the process by which one opinion becomes dominant as those who perceive their opinion to be in the minority do not speak up because they fear isolation from society.”

Overcoming the silence:

The theory explains a vocal minority (the complement of the silent majority) by stating that people who are highly educated, or who have greater affluence, and the few other cavalier individuals who do not fear isolation, are likely to speak out regardless of public opinion. It further states that this minority is a necessary factor of change while the compliant majority is a necessary factor of stability, with both being a product of evolution. There is a vocal minority, which remains at the top of the spiral in defiance of threats of isolation. This theory calls these vocal minorities the hardcore nonconformist or the avant-garde. Hardcore nonconformists are “people who have already been rejected for their beliefs and have nothing to lose by speaking out.” While the avant-garde are “the intellectuals, artists, and reformers in the isolated minority who speak out because they are convinced they are ahead of the times.”

Ritual mass murders and trauma-based mind-control

“Simplistic conspiracy researchers will nod their heads in recognition of the duplicity involved here, while missing the point about the one-two punch repeatedly conveyed in these highly symbolical murders, which transmit alchemical cant language command phrases and trigger-words over the airwaves and into the news racks.

One: the ritual murders are successfully accomplished. The principals get-away, the scapegoat conveniently takes the blame.

Two: later we learn the truth but no one is prosecuted. We are mocked, disoriented and demoralized. Occult prestige and potency is heightened.

This is what simplistic researchers miss: the function of macabre arrogance thumbing its nose at us while we do nothing except spread the tale of their immunity and invincibility further. That is the game plan operant here.

To the belief system of the modern man it sounds too crazy. Why would the perpetrators want their secrets revealed after the fact—even if it is years later? This question can only be definitively answered if one has an understanding of the Zeitgeist which overseers in the cryptocracy have partly manufactured and partly tailored their own operations to coincide with.

As I’ve pointed out, secrets like this were rarely revealed in the past because traditional people had not yet completed the alchemical processing. To make such perverse, modern revelations to an unprocessed, healthy and vigorous population possessed of will, memory, adherence to their deepest inner intuition and intense interest in their own salvation, would not have been a good thing for the cryptocracy. It would have proved fatal to them.

But to reveal these after-the-act secrets in our modern time, to a people who have no memory, no will-power and no interest in their own fate except in so far as it may serve as momentary titillation and entertainment actually strengthens the enslavement of such a people.”
