How many Americans believe their government has space-based laser weapons?
How many Americans who don’t believe this, because their government has never told them this (on television), would refuse to believe this even when presented with evidence their government does in fact have such weapons?
Stupid is as stupid does.
I lived in El Paso, Texas from 1985-1988 and one of the jobs I worked while living there was being a delivery driver for Emery Worldwide, which was an air cargo business; the first in the US, in fact. Our motto was: “If we can fit it into the plane we can deliver it overnight” (this was also the early days of the up-start Federal Express, which delivered only letters (we delivered letters too, as a side thing, since we were delivering tons of freight per flight anyways).
I was assigned to the Las Cruces, New Mexico route, meaning I was at the airport at 6 am each morning (except Sundays) and wasn’t back and off duty until around 7 pm each night (I worked for a contract carrier Emery used (E&D Services of El Paso) and was paid by the day rather than by the hour).
The US Army’s White Sands Missile Range is near Las Cruces and was on my route as well, as was the High Energy Laser Systems Test Facility (HELSTF), which was located downrange of the WSMR firing line, and was a highly secure site guarded by men with automatic weapons.
I usually delivered to the guys with Hughes Aircraft, and would see them about every other day or so. Being downrange, as HELSTF was, we would occasionally be required to seek shelter underground whenever someone on the firing line at WSMR was firing a missile, because, obviously, being downrange, such missiles could have landed right on top of HELSTF and underground was the safest place for us to be at such times.
All the scientists working there were working on developing directed energy weapons for the DoD, which are very much like the phasers Star Trek’s USS Enterprise is armed with (I’m not sure where the transporter project might be located).
Needless to say, directed energy weapons and the space platforms armed with them are not things I read about in a book, or online, but a DoD project I actually did my small part in (=delivery) in order to help create. (I once delivered the most perfect mirror that can be manufactured on earth (from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland I think) which got the attention of every scientist at HELSTF, which was the only time all the scientists ever came out to meet me and my delivery van in order to “oh and ah” over their new mirror, which they were very excited about).
All of this is real, and not some “conspiracy theory”; and whoever doubts this fact is, to me, just plain stupid.
Our tax dollars have paid for this and the space-based directed energy weapons systems are in place now. Why the USG will not make this public knowledge I do not know, although I think it concerns an old treaty the USG had signed years ago promising never to do what they have now done, and they don’t want to admit to having violating this treaty. Although with NATO having violated its treaty in order to attack various and sundry nations around the globe without provocation, I don’t know why, at this point (the motto of the USG being “Do what thou will”) the USG would give a flying fuck about their having violated some old space weapons ban.
One look at HELSTF’s logo tells us all we need to know about what DoD was doing at HELSTF.

“The High Energy Laser Systems Test Facility (HELSTF) is located at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. HELSTF became operational on September 6, 1985 when the Air Force conducted the first Lethality and Target Hardening (LTH-l) program test for the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization (SDIO). HELSTF has been managed by the U.S. Army Space and Strategic Defense Command (USASSDC) since October 1990. Prior to that, the facility was under the command of Commander, White Sands Missile Range. Primary support for operation and maintenance of the SDC-managed facility is currently provided by Lockheed Engineering and Science Company (LESC). The Navy is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the MIRACL and the SEALITE Beam Director through its contractors, TRW and Hughes Aircraft.”
“The High Energy Laser Systems Test Facility (HELSTF) operates the nation´s most powerful laser in support of DoD laser research, development, test, and evaluation. HELSTF remains the only site capable of supporting a broad spectrum of directed energy technologies for the DoD, other government agencies, industry, and academia. With its infrastructure and isolated location, HELSTF is the ideal choice to host new laser technologies, such as free electron or advanced solid sate lasers. The Test Facility represents a multi-million investment in High Energy Laser research and includes the following capabilities…”
About US Army – HELSTF (High Energy Laser Systems Test Facility)
“The High Energy Laser Systems Test Facility (HELSTF) is the ideal choice to host exploration of future laser technologies. Appointed the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command’s (SMDC) “Directed Energy Center for Test and Evaluation,” HELSTF boasts a unique infrastructure with extensive capabilities for ground-based directed energy testing and evaluation. Located on White Sands Missile Range, in southern New Mexico, HELSTF has access to 3,200 square miles of controlled land and 7,000 square miles of controlled air space in which to conduct live fire, lethality, and vulnerability testing, as well as laser/material interactions.
“As defense systems have emerged employing expanded high-energy laser technologies, the need for a test facility equipped to accommodate an array of test scenarios arose. HELSTF has met that need by transforming an already proven test site with an experienced test team into a facility poised for the 21st Century. As a result, HELSTF is able to support a wide variety of laser developmental and operational tests for not only combat and materiel developers, but also for industry and academia.”

As outlined in the General Order, dated July 1, 1993, the USASSDC was to serve as the “focal point for space and strategic defense matters, responsible for [the] exploitation of space and strategic assets for use by warfighting [Commanders in Chief].” See: http://space.au.af.mil/primer/army_space.pdf

“Inertially Stabilized Platforms for Precision Pointing Applications to directed-energy weapons and space-based lasers. Tactical and space-based high-energy-laser weapon systems present interesting challenges for precision line-of-sight control. Subpointing accuracies are required against dynamic targets. In addition, absolute pointing and inertial angular-rate measurements are required to support mission requirements. This article addresses directed-energy-weapon (DEW) precision pointing requirements and implementation alternatives in the context of strapdown and stable-platform inertial-reference technologies. Prior work has addressed details of stable platform design and test results. The contributions of the present article include the broader issues of DEW requirements drivers, integration of the stabilization system with the remaining optical system, and design tradeoffs between stable-platform and strapdown stabilization mechanizations.”

“The United States needs to incorporate the defense against directed energy weapons with the same intensity used developing anti-ballistic missile defenses. One of the major drawbacks to optical or directed energy systems is the inability to penetrate clouds or dense fog. Advances in technology are beginning to bring weather phenomena under our control. Greatly increased computing power and micronized delivery systems will allow us to create specific perturbations in local atmospheric conditions. These perturbations allow for the immediate and lasting ability to create localized fog or stratus cloud formations shielding critical assets against attack from energy based weapons. The future of nanotechnology will enable creation of stratus cloud formations to defeat DEW and optically targeted attacks on United Sates assets. The solution the weather control problem involves networked miniature balloons feeding and receiving data from a four-dimensional variation (4d-Var) computer model through a sensor and actor network. A network of diamond-walled balloons enters the area to be changed and then both measures and affects localized temperature and vapor content. This system effectively shortens the control loop of an atmospheric system to the point it can be managed. The capabilities in the diamond-walled balloons are based on the future of nanotechnology.”
